The Etched Noir series blends the rustic elegance of traditional black clay pottery with modern botanical artistry. Each mug is handcrafted in Jingdezhen using natural mineral clay, and coated with a white slip layer before being meticulously hand-painted. 

Fired at over 1300°C, these mugs are both lead-free and food-safe. The subtle blade marks, iron specks, and the unglazed, raw bottom are all part of the artisan's process, adding warmth and authenticity to every cup.

About the designer

At Cool Banana, we believe in the quiet beauty of imperfection and the soulful warmth of handmade objects. Behind each creation is Korean ceramicist Kim Soo-hyun (金秀泫), who resides and works in Jingdezhen, China—the historic heart of porcelain. For her, making pottery is a joyful, meditative practice, and each vessel carries a sense of calm, patience, and lived-in beauty. Whether it’s the soft brush of glaze or the uneven rim formed by hand, her work honors both tradition and individuality.
